Advantages of AWS

Amazon EC2

Amazon Web Services is an astounding cloud computing platform that helps you harness the power of Amazon’s powerful infrastructure. AWS lets you access Amazon EC2 virtual machine to get a website up and running on WordPress with utmost convenience. All you need to do is to create an AWS account and login into the account using your user credentials to access the dashboard.

Once you have logged in, click on the ‘Services’ menu and select ‘EC2’ under Compute. EC2 platform allows you to create virtual machines and run web applications such as WordPress. Now you just need to click on ‘Launch Instance’ on your dashboard to start with your virtual machine.

From AMI

Now that you have initiated Amazon EC2 configuration, you can select an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) from AWS. An AMI is a pre-configured software stack that has WordPress installed on it and can be accessed with a single click. Once this is done, click on ‘AWS Marketplace’ in the left side navigation and then select ‘WordPress by Bitnami’. You will now see a pricing pop-up; you just need to click on the continue button. On the next screen, you will be asked to choose an instance type; you can select td.micro free tier within the sort column and click on ‘Configure instance details’. You will be directed to the next screen where you can click on ‘Next: Add Storage’ and then on ‘Next: Add Tags’.

Name the
Virtual Machine

Once you are done with the above steps, it is time to name your EC2 instance. Click on ‘Add Tags’ and enter ‘Name’ as key and ‘MyWordPress’ as value. Click on ‘Review and Launch’ to proceed. Here you can review the configuration of your instance and then click on ‘Launch’ to start your Amazon EC2 instance for WordPress. You can connect with EC2 virtual machine through a terminal program of Secure Shell (SSH). Now you will be asked to select a key pair. Click on ‘Proceed without a key pair’ and check the box below to show that you understand you won’t be able to access your virtual machine without a virtual key. Now click on ‘Launch Instances’ to save your settings and launch the EC2 instance.

WordPress As
EC2 Instance

Once you have successfully launched your EC2, click on ‘View Instances’ on the bottom right corner of the screen. You will see your WordPress instance running. If the instance state is showing up as ‘Launching’, then your WordPress instance is still in the process of getting launched. Once your instance starts running, you can check WordPress. If you want to see how your WordPress site would look like, you can copy its public IP address available in the column IPV4 Public IP and paste this address in a new tab of your browser. You will see your WordPress website with the default theme. So now you have got your website up and running on WordPress; you just need to login on the page to customize your site.

Final Tweaks
For WordPress

Once you have created your WordPress site, you can access the login page by adding /wp-admin/ to your site’s public IP address. You will now be directed to your WordPress login page. To access the WordPress admin area, you would require a username and password. To get your login credentials, go back to the EC2 console and click on ‘Actions’ button and select ‘Get System Log’ under Instance Settings. This will open a pop-up window loaded with text. You can scroll down to the bottom of this window where you will see a line ‘Setting Bitnami application password to’ surrounded by hash signs. Here you will get the default username and password. You can use these credentials to log in on your WordPress site. With an AWS free trial, you can access all these features and understand the nuances of an Amazon EC2 virtual machine.
