Ubuntu is a Linux distribution, also known as Linux Distro. In Linux parlance, a distribution is a version of the operating system built on top of the Linux kernel.

There are so many Linux distributions available, such as Debian, Fedora, Arch, CentOS, RedHat Enterprise, and so on. Many of them are purpose-built. For instance, to run a web server or on network switches such as routers and modems. Many Linux distributions are free and have user communities that provide assistance and support to one another. However, downloading a free Linux distribution with few support choices can be scary for the ordinary computer user. That is where Ubuntu enters the picture.

Ubuntu is provided for free, with both community and expert assistance. It includes the most up-to-date translations and accessibility infrastructure available from the Free Software community in order to make Ubuntu as accessible as possible to the widest potential audience.

The company releases a new version of Ubuntu every six months, making it a reliable operating system. Open-source software development is at the heart of Ubuntu’s philosophy. It is appropriate for use on both desktop computers and servers.

Linux distribution Ubuntu comes preloaded with thousands of pieces of software, starting with the Linux kernel version 5.4 and GNOME 3.28 and encompassing every standard desktop application, from word processing and spreadsheet applications to internet access and web server software, email software as well as programming languages and tools, as well as several games.

The current Ubuntu release is compatible with the following processors: Intel x86 (IBM-compatible PC), AMD64 (x86-64), ARMv7, ARMv8 (ARM64), IBM POWER8/POWER9 (ppc64el), IBM Z zEC12/zEC13/z14, and IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper I+II/Emporer I+II (IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper I+II) (s390x).
