Cloud computing: Understanding the Basics

Jul 28,2021 by Manoj Yadav

Cloud computing refers to the practice of using a series of remote network to deliver hosted services over the internet.  In other words, cloud computing refers to storage and access of data over the internet rather than your hard drive.

There are basically three categories in which you can divide these services:  Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).  The biggest advantage offered by cloud computing is that it allows end users to use and pay for it just like utility. For example, you consume electricity without having to build the underlying infrastructure for it.

Cloud computing offers several benefits to both businesses and end users. It allows for high level of elasticity as organizations can draw in additional resources at the time of higher demand and then scale down again as demands decrease. Cloud computing also allows end users to pay for only those resources that they have used. This higher level of flexibility helps small businesses and individual users save a lot of money.

There are many providers offering hosting, business e-mail services and cloud computing solutions to a wide and diverge range of industries in India and abroad.  Cloud services can be private, public or hybrid, and this service provider has the expertise and resources to deliver industry- leading, hybrid private and public cloud solutions to transform your business process and applications.

Private cloud computing

Private cloud services are delivered from a business’ data centre to internal users. The main advantage of private cloud computing is higher degree of versatility and convenience along with additional level of security and management control. Private cloud hosting is delivered through an enterprise’s corporate firewall and does an excellent job of improving your business competency and efficiency. Your business can quickly respond to various market demands by drawing from an extensive pool of resources.

Public cloud computing

In a public cloud computing model, a third party is responsible for delivering cloud services over a public network like Internet. Public cloud services are sold on demand, typically by the minute or hour. What it means is that end users have to pay for only the bandwidth, CPU, storage, memory, etc that they use. Public cloud hosting is customised to meet strict security compliance and guidelines to meet highest security standards. It offers higher levels of scalability to efficiently cope up with peak load along with 24×7, 365 days a year technical support.

Hybrid cloud computing

Hybrid cloud computing as the name suggests is a combination of private and public cloud models. There is an orchestration between public cloud services and on-premises private cloud. Organizations can make use of private cloud for mission critical data or workload and public clouds for general nature workloads.

Hybrid cloud offers organizations the security of private cloud with the scalability of public cloud model. End users are offered a high level of flexibility, security and control.
